FURIS IGNIS is brand-new one-man entity hailing from Germany. Despite its relative newness, FURIS IGNIS indeed wields German steel forged during the days of the ancients. No more but definitely no less, the band’s Decapitate the Aging World debut is pure ‘n’ proud black metal from the days when black metal was strictly BLACK METAL. As forecasted by its starkly alluring cover art, Decapitate the Aging World recalls misty and mystical spirits from glorious, desolate times – be they Moonblood or early Desaster or equally early Katharsis – planting the banner of olde Germania deep into the frost-covered soil. And yet, for all this requisite coldness, more potently does a FIRE burn within FURIS IGNIS that makes its debut statement one that commands attention for its undeniably physical intensity: ghoulish and grim, yes, but stout and muscular and legitimately live. Underpinning this fiery intensity is a tasteful dusting of shimmering synth – “a touch of medieval darkness,” as it were – just lingering enough like fog across a haunted moor.
Undeniably epic in its six-song/40-minute construction, Decapitate the Aging World breathes new life into death.

However, the record always kept its tense character making it the perfect soundtrack for dreary days. The release comprises of seven titles, one as a fully instrumental ambient track („The Old Ghost In The Well“), and all lyrics and music were solely done by G.B., giving this band and release a rather unparalleled sound. One of the most accomplished newcomers Signal Rex has come across in recent years, the shadowy entity of Valais burst from the voidal womb fully formed in the middle of 2021 with their self-titled debut album. Despite existing in the vast (and vastly inconsistent) wilderness of Bandcamp, Valais in fact imparted a power and poignancy that takes most bands at least a couple records to reach, if at all. Both classically composed and forward-thinking, Valais understood right from the start the core tenets of true black metal, but equally understood how to inject their own personality and poise into such to create something that adds to the language of BLACK METAL rather than mimics its speech patterns (and sloppily so).
No, Valais as a work is a towering monument of tension and release, skillful contours and subtle dynamics, richly malevolent melody and slipstreaming violence. Aesthetic touchstones include the likes of Slidhr, latter-day Leviathan, and even Blut Aus Nord at their wiliest, but Valais also exhibit an understated sense of the pagan – perhaps stemming from their native Ireland, or perhaps from some strange cosmos far beyond our comprehension… Either way, all of this coalesces into a whilrlwinding five-song/37-minute experience that feels far vaster than that succinct runtime otherwise suggests. As such, Signal Rex is honored to rightfully release this tome in all physical formats.
