  • Horna (FIN) – Kasteessa Kirottu LP 26.88

    Black Metal

“Kasteessa Kirottu” is a special release made of unearthed songs which were never recorded before.

Dating back as far as days when we had not even recorded the first demo “Varjoissa” back in 1995, stretching between the years until 1999.

Only one song composed during recent times is included as it was never intended to be for Horna, but sometimes changes etch their mark in time.

This is in no way a real new album but represents early influences and as such, features material which to many may seem an oddity yet is still Horna to the fullest extent.

  • Horna (FIN) – Kuoleman Kirjo DLP 34.88

    Black Metal

By now, Horna should need no introduction. For over 25 years now, the Finnish black metal institution – founded by uber-prolific guitarist/songwriter Shatraug (Sargeist, Behexen, et al) – have built a vast, virulent body of work beyond compare. In fact, when one mentions “Finnish black metal” nowadays, the name Horna is immediately invoked…and for good reason. Simply put, their vision of unapologetic BLACK METAL is proud and pure, and played with an intensity and finesse that’s familiar yet unique.

  • House Of Atreus (USA) – Orations LP 26.88

    Black Metal

Since their emergence in 2011, HOUSE OF ATREUS have become one of the most singular hordes to hail from North American soil during that time. Across a demo, an EP, and two successive full-lengths, the Minnesota natives have patiently and painstakingly crafted death metal of a most epic order. A veritable riff-machine, HOUSE OF ATREUS are powered by the Greek tragedies and have that very same tragedy (as well as triumph) coursing through their rough ‘n’ rugged veins. Theirs is a sound unapologetically influenced by the ancient Hellenic legends Varathron and Rotting Christ as well as other singular riff-machines like Grand Belial’s Key and Arghoslent, and the earliest and most blackened works of Running Wild. However, HOUSE OF ATREUS handily transcend these influences, as evidenced by their critically acclaimed second album, From the Madness of Ixion, released in 2018 by IRON BONEHEAD. Truly, the quartet managed to add to this glorious lineage rather than merely bottom-feed off it.

  • Hulder (USA) – Godslastering Hymns of a Forlorn Peasantry LP 26.88

    Black Metal

Just like debut albums properly should, Godslastering Hymns of a Forlorn Peasantry straddles both HULDER’s past as well as unearthing new paths. Within the eight songs comprising the 40-minute record, Hulder spans myriad generations and idioms of black metal, but all deeply rooted in ’90s classicism: from the paganisms of earliest Enslaved, Ulver, Isvind, and Kampfar to the hypnotizing grit of classic Judas Iscariot and Grand Belial’s Key, on to the mystical majesty of unsung Greeks like Zemial and Kawir and even over to the woodland wonder of old Opera IX. Which is all to say that HULDER here not so much mimic their forebears so much as meld the idiosyncrasies inherent to each into a masterclass in all-caps BLACK METAL songwriting: dynamic, engaging, nuanced, and transportive, but undeniably physical in its pulsing vistas of darkness and mystery. Likewise, Godslastering Hymns of a Forlorn Peasantry is structured like a true album, with Side 1 kicking in an utterly feral manner and cresting along to vicious wanderlust and ending on the eerily restrained near-ambient hymn “De Dijle,” and then Side 2 furthering the synth mysticism and maintaining a more triumphant aspect, with the closing magickal march of “From Whence an Ancient Evil Once Reigned” sounding not unlike a lost relic from Grieghallen circa 1994. And all this is encased in a production that’s rich, robust, and rounded; only the rawness of the performances bleed into the soundfield, a clear division from HULDER’s earlier demo days.

    Black Metal

“Bag Skyggernes Slør”, meaning “Behind the Veil of Shadows” is Í Myrkri’s third conjuration. A lyrical and musical descend awaits through the night, into the depths of the unknown, the unfathomable and the uncertain. A dark journey through the grip of celestial powers, hopelessness in darkness and ultimately letting go of fear and embracing the inevitable end, beyond the veil.

  • Ian Stuart (UK) – No Turning Back LP 26.88

    RAC / Oi!

Ian Stuart Donaldson’s first and best solo album from 1989. The “No turning back” LP was released shortly after the “After the Fire” album, and like that LP it is punkier than most of Skrewdriver’s later material. And while much of this LP is hard rock, some songs are Oi!-heavy: “Fortress Europe”, “Battle Cries” and especially “Firepower” sound like what Skrewdriver played on the “Hail the New Dawn” LP. Even the title track, despite being based on a metal riff, is less than two minutes long and has a lot of punk anger. “Campaign in the East” is one of Ian Stuart’s best hard rock compositions, not only on this album but in general.

  • Ian Stuart and Rough Justice (UK) – Justice for the Cottbus Six LP 26.88

    RAC/Oi!

In addition to the six songs from the mini-CD / mini-LP at the time, it also contains 4 more songs as a treat on top: two songs from the first Skrewdriver LP on ROR (H.t.n.d. from 1984) and from the third Skrewdriver LP (W.R. from 1987 ). Namely “Justice” plus “If there is a riot” as well as “Behind the bars” and “I can see the fire”. The record in this version was actually supposed to be released in 2022, but unfortunately it has only now made it to the public eye because other re-releases had priority.

  • Ifrinn (SCO) – Caledonian Black Magick LP 26.88

    Black Metal

Judiciously prizing quality over quantity, Ifrinn return with yet another release, this time titled Caledonian Black Magick. Indeed an ever-apt description of the hypnotic rhythms created by Ifrinn – and one this constellation has established since the beginning – Caledonian Black Magick is both an intensification and consolidation of its no-less-considerable predecessor. Here, the attack is sharpened to an enviable degree, finesse meeting fury headlong, as each catacomb-esque creation expands onward and outward. The vortex of sound Ifrinn create across this EP is akin to levitational hypnosis: undeniably physical in its approach, sometimes overwhelmingly so, but a paralysis of subconscious and spirit that’s paradoxically liberating and intoxicating. Despite its Highland origins, Ifrinn are without geography nor era; authentic black metal orthodoxy knows no boundaries, and its windswept splendor is timeless.

Lorentzen “Den Rædsomste Nat” or “The Most Terrible Night” in English, was painted from 1807-1808 and depicts the bombardment of Kongens Nytorv in Copenhagen. It is one of the most famous Danish paintings of the Golden Age.

All lyrics of this album is written in the old Danish tongue, as it was written in the 19th Century.
