  • Atrax Morgue (ITA) – Mechanic Asphyxia LP 28.88

    Power Electronics

Marco Corbelli’s artistic journey began in the early 90’s. Under the pseudonym of Marco Rotula, he started to release a series of fanzines in A5 format. The first was The Pleasure Agony, followed by Sick and Murders. The aesthetics of these first fanzines were very sophisticated and the content deals with topics that will follow Marco throughout his artistic career: sadism, schizophrenia, insanity, murder, psychosis, necrophilia, diseases, and most importantly death. In 1993, heavily influenced by his obsessions, Marco Corbelli began his musical activities creating the Slaughter Productions label and the Atrax Morgue project. Greatly inspired by Italian Power Electronics act The Sodality, with their 1987 LP Beyond Unknown Pleasures and from projects as Whitehouse and Brighter Death Now, pioneers of a minimal, evil and visceral electronic, Atrax Morgue released his first tape In Search Of Death which will be followed by a series of amazing cassettes in the succeeding years.

  • Atrax Morgue (ITA) / Dead Body Love (ITA) – Split LP 28.88

    Power Electronics

It feels like I’ve been writing about Dead Body Love for as long as I have been recording harsh noise. What else can be said? I can’t express enough how much of an influence Italian harsh noise has had on my own personal works, but It also lets me and several peers investigate the techniques and styles of the 1990s harsh noise and the atmosphere that was created expressed from different regions of the world. The more I listen and revisit the material of 90s Japanese harsh noise, the 80s UK power electronics and the celebrated rougher tendencies of 90s Americanoise, the Italian material and different projects flare up that dictate a powerful ‘Coles Notes’ of harsh noise and how it can be deconstructed and eventually materialized into vivisected lines and layers of crumbling, throbbing, cracking and creaking sound.

  • Auld Ridge (UK) – Consanguineous Hymns of Faith and Famine LP 26.88

    Black Metal

By command of the Hermetic Order of Ytene, this offering from Auld Ridge is a journey through Europes cold and uncompromising past of bloodshed and treachery.
Lyrically inspired by events such as the Albigensian Crusades, the life of English heretic John Oldcastle, the events of the Nibelungenlied as well as the massacre of the Burgundians under the Huns.
Musically, the album combines the folk elements of Auld Ridge with more traditional and melodic Black Metal passages that truly hold within them the essence of the past and an uncompromising rural ferocity that is hard to describe! A masterfully crafted album from start to finish!

The album explores lesser known folklore and folk tales from the British Isles as well as further out, from the superstitions of a newly Christianised Iceland to tales of Werewolves from Ireland and the Shamanic practices of Northern Scandinavia.

  • Aurae Lunae (ECU) – Ntdd Strl CD 16.88

    Black Metal

AVRÆ LVNÆ are a power-trio hailing from the still-rising Ecuadorian black metal scene. Fronted by Wampyric Strigoi – mainman of WAMPYRIC RITES, who’ve had a huge hand in shaping that scene, as well as GRYMMSTALT, WINTERSTORM, and DUNGEON STEEL among many others – AVRÆ LVNÆ also feature erstwhile WAMPYRIC RITES / DUNGEON STEEL drummer Eblis Destructor and one Geist der Natur on guitar and bass. Uniquely, the band brand their black metal “neon metal,” which isn’t as garish as it sounds; rather, they draw to the fore the shimmering, stained-glass textures of mystical black metal, making for a mesmerizing (and MELODIC) display of psychedelic obsidian.

  • Austere (AUS) – Corrosion Of Hearts DIGI-CD 16.88

    Black Metal

AUSTERE are back. The Australians return with their third album – and they are as laconic and without any pretensions as when they went into extended hibernation after the release of their sophomore full-length “To Lay like Old Ashes” in 2009. Entitled “Corrosion of Hearts”, the new tracks stay true to the path that AUSTERE have carved for themselves out of solid black metal bedrock. The multi-layered and harsh yet often dreamlike guitar tapestries woven by Mitchell Keepin are complemented by the emotive drumming of Tim Yatras, who also contributes keyboard splashes and cinematic soundscapes. In the typical manner of these Australians, their songs are still meandering, flowing streams of musical thought of epic proportions. On “Corrosion of Hearts”, AUSTERE’s brand of black metal has evolved into a more mature and defined form of expression, which is hardly surprising as both musicians were active in other bands during their hiatus. The duo also took more time to craft their new songs into exactly what they were supposed to sound like than before. With greater experience comes more determination.
