This opus to the ancient ones hovers over the distant eyes of the great black dragon, the eternal poisonous sleep of the gods exalted in cold cacophonous stormwinds, each of the orchestrations constitutes the black spell of the primordial realms and the majestic countenance, of vitrified prayers beyond from the southern mountains eroded and sunken by fate, where primitive man completed his transmigration in the mysteries and secrets of possession…

Black metal is death! Sweden’s Marduk returns for another reap of the grim on Memento Mori for Century Media. Requested by fate and realized by Morgan Håkansson (guitar), Daniel Rostén (vocals), and Simon Schilling (drums), Marduk’s 15th full-length was cast under the promised land of disease, famine, and calamity. Actually, it’s more prosaic than that. The message on the surface and deep inside of Memento Mori is inevitability. By definition, the Latin phrase, ‘memento mori,’ translates as ‘remember you must die.’ The Swedes followed that motto to the Seven Trumpets of the Apocalypse—check out “Blood of the Funeral”—and the impending death to all that follows.

Forged in the early 2000’s, MARE has become quite the mysterious gem for underground fanatics across the globe. Rarely playing live and with hard to get releases, the band has become, for many, one of the few ‘real’ Black Metal bands out there left in todays oversaturated scene. To many they have seemed to do so on purpose, but for us working closely with the band it is simply in their nature not to bother. They make music for themselves, they do this for themselves, and rest assured MARE will genuinely keep going down their own path never caring about hypes, fashion, trends or fame. They arrogantly named their own music ‘Nidrosian Black Sorcerous Art’ which defines who they are, on stage and off stage.

Since its original CD release in 1995 on Baron Records and the following year’s one-off CD release by the relatively unknown Nocturn Records, “For a Glory of All Evil Spirits, Rise for Victory”, Mastiphal’s first album, has remained mostly in obscurity. Now properly reissued on gatefold LP.
