  • In Twilight’s Embrace (POL) – Lawa LP 28.88

    Black Metal

Some question why IN TWILIGHT’S EMBRACE is now being released by Terratur Possessions, and although we owe no one anything, I’ll briefly explain.

After spending weeks on tour with these guys getting to know them first hand, seeing how hard working they are, I’ll rather work with passionate, real artists who works from an honest and devoted place, rather than partaking in the charade of brotherhoods, militias and idolizations that plagues the Black Metal genre today. Where everyone’s in each others echo chambers, praising what’s at best mediocre, thus weakening all that we stand for. Without criticism one gets nowhere, surround yourself with yes-men and your downfall will follow.

Although starting off as a Hardcore band exactly 20 years ago, both the band and members evolved into something more sinister. I mean, who doesn’t change over a 20 year period…? They started perfecting their craft around 14 years after their formation, through a magnificent album called VANITAS. This is for me where the band shone through as a legit Black Metal band and raised the bar significantly. This did not get unnoticed and they toured the land relentlessly with bands like IMMOLATION, AZARATH and BLAZE OF PERDITION.

A year later we saw the follow up LAWA blow up like Iceland and the band got recognition inside and outside of Poland, and the chatter began; where the hell did these guys come from? More giggling and touring followed alongside MGLA, BEHEMTOH and WHOREDOM RIFE, to mention a few.

  • Incapacitants (JPN) – Feedback of N.M.S. DLP 36.88

    Noise

Incapacitants are the best noise band to ever come out of Japan; the group was formed in 1981 in Osaka, as the solo project of Toshiji Mikawa, a member of the amazing noise group Hijokaidan. Mikawa later moved to Tokyo, where he joined with Fumio Kosakai (also an occasional member of Hijokaidan, as well as a former member of C.C.C.C.) to make Incapacitants a duo and they released its first album Feedback Of N.M.S. on Alchemy Records CD in 1991.

An absolutely masterful piece of work, threaded with risk, ambition, raw immediacy, and precision. While astounding artists in their own right, deserving every bit of the accolades they’ve thus far received,  Toshiji Mikawa and Fumio Kosakai seem capable of something profound together that has yet to have heard. Feedback Of N.M.S. is everything we hope to hear from an experimental endeavour and so much more.

Issued on double vinyl  in a very limited edition of 299 copies, with six cards reproducing Takuya Sakaguchi’s original drawings and adding an unreleased drawing and extensive notes in Japanese and English, it’s impossible to recommend enough. Ten out ten, and mind-bendingly good. Once the word gets out, this one isn’t going to sit around for long.

  • Incitatus (NOR) – Demo 1994 26.88

    Black Metal

Official re-issue of the old demo from 1994 by the norwegian black metal horde ‘Incitatus’!!!
Dark and mystical black metal, primitive but intense with strong doom influences – used in majestical form!!! Instead of highspeed-blasts, ‘Incitatus’ created a rather slow and hypnotic and especially (as mentioned before) intense sound and style, where each note unfolds its own obscure magic!!! Different than the average material of that time (1994) but not “experimental”!!! Although this demo will not be among my ultimate favorites (as I’m not much into doomy stuff), I still consider this demo as truely and absolutely honestly ‘one of a kind’! The simple layout and interesting cover-artwork directly caught my attention and also captured the sinister and doomy atmosphere of this record in a perfect way. Parallels to early Samael, Argentum, Eternal (MX) can’t be denied and desciples of darkness shall grab their copy blindly – same as I did here.

  • Indecent Exposure (UK) – Reveal All ! LP 26.88

    RAC/OI!

Their first, long-awaited album “Reveal All!” was only released in 1985, after the band had released a double A-side single called “Riots/A Matter of Time” on their own label “IndEx Records” at the end of 1983. “Reveal All!” is classic Oi! Music in its rawest form with titles like “A Way of Life” and “Bank Holiday” to harder songs like “I won’t let my Country die” and “Save the Nation”. In 1985/86 the local Oi! Scene has probably reached its lowest point. At a gig in Tufnell Park, North London, singer Steve Reeve got into an argument with hardliners in attendance. One of these idiots threw a bottle while Indecent Exposure were playing their set, Steve’s head was hit and slashed. In Hardcore Oi! Indecent Exposure finished their concert in a similar manner and then jumped into the crowd to find the bottle thrower. But in true low-life fashion, the culprit had crawled back into the hole he came from. Later that night, Steve was taken to the hospital where he received twelve stitches in his head.
