  • Empyrium (DEU) – A Wintersunset… YELLOW LP 28.88

    Black Metal

With its gloomy and epic Dark Metal, Empyrium’s first release isn’t only the groundwork of Schwadorf’s further musical creativity. «A Wintersunset …» was also the starting signal for the label Prophecy Productions, as the name «Prophecy» had previously just been in use for a mail-order.

  • Empyrium (DEU) – Über den Sternen DLP 32.88

    Black Metal / Neofolk

With their sixth full-length, “Über den Sternen”, an allegorical German rendering of their band name meaning “Above the Stars”, EMPYRIUM still draw from the magic and spirits of wild places, nature’s beauty, and human relics of ages long past. “Über den Sternen” echoes this reconciliation of the old with the new on a musical level as well. The Franconian duo is putting more emphasis on the electric guitars and harsh vocals again, which marked their first two albums and stood strong upon the band’s melodic black metal foundations. Yet EMPYRIUM also revisit the dark folk style, which the Germans had progressively embraced on their third and fourth albums.

  • Empyrium (DEU) – Weiland GOLD DLP 34.88

    Black Metal / Neofolk

‘Weiland’ is Empyrium’s fourth and (for the time being) last album and embodies the quintessence of this unique band. Still performed acoustically, it combines the atmospheric suspense of the first two albums (e.g., “Heimkehr”, “Die Schwäne im Schilf”) with the pensive still lives of “Where At Night …” (e.g., ‘Kein Hirtenfeuer glimmt mehr’, ‘Nebel’). The musical spectrum of the project is enriched through the re-integration of drums and the introduction of instruments such as viola, violin, bassoon, or Mellotron, so there is also a lot to discover for those who already know Empyrium. The album is entirely devoted to nature mysticism. In its three chapters – Marsh, Forest, and Water -, Empyrium portray their view of nature in romantic and legendary ways.

  • Empyrium (DEU) – Where At Night The Wood Grouse Plays DIGI-CD 16.88

    Neofolk

Their third album sees Empyrium abandoning the Metal elements of their music for the first time, instantly creating a classic of nature-romantic acoustic music.
Inspired by Ulver’s «Kveldssanger», this work is more influenced by the folklore of Schwadorf’s home region, the Rhoen, than any other album by Empyrium, and it paved the way for «Weiland» (2002).

  • Empyrium ‎(DEU) – …Der Wie Ein Blitz Vom Himmel Fiel BROWN LP 26.88

    BLACK METAL

EMPYRIUM first played melodic black metal and only later shifted to dark folk. “… Der wie ein Blitz vom Himmel fiel …” (“he who fell from the sky like lightning”) was recorded on December 19, 1994, and released earlier in the following year. The Germans’ first demo cassette, which became an underground success just by word of mouth in times before the internet, not only marked the beginning of a lifelong career in music for mastermind Schwadorf; it also triggered the foundation of Prophecy Productions and Klangschmiede Studio E, both becoming internationally renowned in their own right, but also served as a template for black-metal-infused sounds with lyrics inspired by the wonders and mysteries of nature that were picked up by many a band that came afterwards.

  • Falkenbach (ICE) – …En Their Medh Riki Fara… DIGI-CD 16.88

    Black Metal

FALKENBACH were originally conceived as a solo-project by Vratyas Vakyas and officially came into being with the “Læknishendr” demo in 1995. The first regular full-length under the banner FALKENBACH appeared in 1996 with the Icelandic title ” …En their medh riki fara…” (1996). The extremely atmospheric album supported by keyboard and acoustic guitar was obviously influenced both by the Bathory classics “Blood Fire Death” and “Hammerheart” as well as the rising Nordic black metal tide. ” …En their medh riki fara…” quickly gained cult status in the blackened pagan metal scene and still maintains a raw, emotional charm today.

FALKENBACH were originally conceived as a solo-project by Vratyas Vakyas and officially came into being with the “Læknishendr” demo in 1995. On his third full-length, “Ok nefna tysvar Ty”, the German continued to navigate straight along the course that he had set on the previous two releases. This meant a further reduction of obvious black metal elements, while adding more melodic and folkish parts. Yet musically as well as in their lyrics, FALKENBACH firmly went on to spearhead the pagan metal style that became so very popular only a few years down the road. Vratyas Vakyas starting to work with guest musicians from this album on, gave his sound more of a band feeling as well.

  • Lifelover (SWE) – Sjukdom DIGI-CD 16.88

    Black Metal

Lifelover’s fourth and last album “Sjukdom” (English: disease) is a dark and challenging record. Following their critical acclaim-afforded and cathartic “Konkurs” in 2008, these elusive and mysterious misanthropes venture down an even more daring path with “Sjukdom” where the extremes of the characteristically idiosyncratic Lifelover sound are pushed to their utmost limit: the bittersweet melodies become more beautiful whilst the pulsing, coal-black heaviness becomes uglier. After the tragic death of B in September 2011, this is Lifelover’s final studio album.
