  • Isengard (NOR) – Høstmørke CD 16.88

    Black Metal

‘Høstmørke’, meaning Autumn Darkness, was the second Isengard album, (even though the debut, ‘Vinterskugge’ is a collection of sorts). It was released in 1995 and featured a continuation of Norwegian folk elements mixed with some doom, with all instruments once again performed by Fenriz himself, as well as the now-trademark vocal delivery. The latter part of the album also features a couple of black metal tracks which explore territory a bit more in line with Darkthrone, particularly the track ‘Total Death’. Høstmørke is also notable for featuring a couple of small guest appearances from Aldrahn (Thorns, ex Dødheimsgard) and Vicotnik of Dødheimsgard.

  • Isengard (NOR) – Vinterskugge CD 16.88

    Black Metal

Isengard was the solo-project started in 1989 by Fenriz – one the key driving forces behind Norwegian legends Darkthrone – because he had many musical ideas to explore that didn’t strictly fit in with the style and music of Darkthrone. Under the Isengard moniker, Fenriz released 2 albums, ‘Vinterskugge’ & ‘Høstmørke’.

‘Vinterskugge’ consists of 3 separate recordings made between 1989 & 1993, and contains a whole multitude of styles, including doom, rock, folk, death, black & Viking metal. Vinterskugge also demonstrated Fenriz’s breadth of vocal styles, lending an epic edge to many of the tracks.

  • Isengard (NOR) – Vårjevndøgn LP 32.88

    Black / Folk Metal

After a period of 25 long years since Isengard’s last studio output, and having recently unearthed a set of tracks from his own archive of material recorded back in those early glory days, this new series of tracks – which were thought to be lost – follow on from some of the metal last heard on 1994’s ‘Vinterskugge’.

‘Vårjevndøgn’ is a monumental journey of epic heavy metal mixed with a often more sombre doomy rock/metal atmosphere bringing to mind bands like US heavy metal veterans Pentagram, & also includes 2 tracks previously only heard on the limited ‘Traditional Doom Cult’ 7” Peaceville release from 2017.

  • Katatonia (SWE) – Dance Of December Souls PINK LP 32.88

    Black Metal

Katatonia was formed in Stockholm Sweden, in 1991 by Anders Nystrom and Jonas Renkse. Their debut album, ‘Dance of December Souls’, was released in 1993, gaining the band recognition for their eclectic brand of gothic doom/death metal and joining acts such as Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride as one of the genre’s defining bands. On future albums a newer, sleeker Katatonia sound came to the fore, starting with a streamlined and structured collection of melodic dark rock songs which became third album ‘Discouraged Ones’ which is widely regarded as the main evolution point for modern day Katatonia, where a much more progressive style of metallic rock was successfully embraced.

    Black Metal

Following on from the band’s 1997 debut, ‘Through Times of War’, Keep of Kalessin’s sophomore release, ‘Agnen’, is hyper-speed dark and epic black metal at its best, incorporating elements of thrash along with eerie discordant riffing in a relentless storm of brutality. The band’s themes are inspired by The Earthsea Quartet, the fantasy created by respected American writer Ursula K. Le Guin; an ancient world of magic and conflict between darkness and light.

One of the pioneering industrial black metal forces to emerge in the early 90’s, Mysticum brought to the world a completely unique brand of extreme & psychedelic discordant black metal with insane drum machine patterns & synths. They were originally signed to Euronymous’ Deathlike Silence Productions label, such was his belief in the band (Mysticum even featured Hellhammer from Mayhem in their line-up for a brief period). However, this venture proved to be cut short following his death, forcing Mysticum to look elsewhere for the release of their eventual debut album, ‘In the Streams of Inferno’, finally surfacing in 1996.
